Joni Richards Bodart has written 19 books and done hundreds of lectures and workshops on booktalking.

Internationally known as an author, lecturer, and workshop leader on booktalking and young adult literature and services, Joni Richards Bodart has been active in the ALA Young Adult Library Services Association since the 1970s, when she was a young adult librarian in northern California. 
Joni lives in Colorado, where in addition to teaching,
she works as a writer, as a consultant to public and school libraries, and as a part-time YA/reference librarian for
Denver Public Library. 


Formerly an assistant professor
at Emporia State University in the School of Library and Information Management, she is now on the adjunct faculty of the Division of Library and Information Science, College of Education, University of Denver.

Dr. Bodart also teaches "Collection Management" and "YA Resources" for the library school at
San Jose State University.

Bodart's newest books
are available from Scarecrow Press, and are aimed at both teens and the professionals they work with. 
The World's Best Thin Books, or What to Read When your Book Report is Due Tomorrow! examines quality titles under 200 pages in length for middle and high school students,
and includes Booktalks, major themes and ideas, and ideas on how to write a booktalk or a book report on each title.

Radical Reads: 101 YA Novels on the Edge, analyzes recent controversial titles for teens. 

In addition to the kind of information presented in Thin Books, each entry includes the title's strengths and risks, awards each has won or lists each has been placed on, and excerpts from reviews. Appendices include information on censorship and how to deal with it.  Both titles are extensively indexed. 
Bodart is available for workshops and lectures on a wide variety of topics, ranging from booktalking and youth literature to censorship and how to combat it, to information psychology and the impact of technology on youth in the 21st century.
